| Description: |
Conduct a comprehensive climate risk and vulnerability assessment that evaluates multiple climate hazards (e.g., drought, extreme precipitation, temperature extremes) across interconnected municipal systems, including water, infrastructure, natural assets, health, and the tourism economy. Identify and prioritize vulnerabilities and risks to Sylvan Lake’s lake-based environment, community well-being, and economic stability, with a focus on both current climate impacts and future projections. Develop a forward-looking Climate Adaptation Plan that outlines actionable strategies, policies, and investments to build resilience, protect critical natural and built systems, and safeguard the tourism-driven local economy. Advance meaningful Indigenous engagement and collaboration by building respectful, sustained partnerships with local Indigenous communities and Knowledge Holders. This includes centering Indigenous rights, governance, and traditional knowledge systems in climate risk assessment and adaptation planning. Collaborate with the community through a Climate Resilience Advisory Group that provides ongoing input, guidance, and local expertise throughout the project, ensuring the plan reflects community values, priorities, and lived experiences. Establish a clear implementation framework that defines timelines, responsibilities, and monitoring indicators to guide Council and Administration in advancing climate adaptation in alignment with municipal and regional goals. |
